An original 19th-century copperplate engraving from the Sydenham Society’s 1851 issue of William Hunter’s The Anatomy of the Human Gravid Uterus Exhibited in Figures, printed from the original copperplates of 1774.
Plate XXV depicts foetal, uterine and umbilical anatomy through finely detailed black-and-white illustrations, accompanied by Latin text. After illustrations by Jan van Rymsdyk, the plate reflects the close anatomical observation and intricate line work associated with Hunter’s celebrated atlas.
A striking historical medical print, of interest to collectors of anatomical illustration, historians of medicine and those drawn to antique scientific art.
Published by the Sydenham Society, London, 1851.
Medium: copperplate engraving on paper.
