Une gravure originale coloriée à la main, vieille de 200 ans, provenant d'un système de plaques anatomiques du corps humain. Édimbourg : [1823-1827] par John Lizars.

Taille : Folio (434 x 270 mm).

*John Lizars a étudié avec le chirurgien d'Édimbourg John Bell et a ensuite enseigné l'anatomie et la chirurgie dans cette ville. Le frère de John, William Home Lizars (1788-1859), a gravé toutes les plaques sur cuivre. "Le livre était coûteux à produire, car les gravures prenaient, comme d'habitude, beaucoup de temps, et la coloration était réalisée à la main avec habileté et minutie" (Roberts et Tomlinson, The Fabric of the Body, 504-505). "Ce superbe atlas est certainement l'une des œuvres les plus élégantes du XIXe siècle" (Cushing L313). Héritiers d'Hippocrate 1436 ; Waller 5950 ; Bienvenue III : 531.
