L'ouvrage « The Clans of the Scottish Highlands » a été initialement publié en deux volumes entre 1845 et 1847 par Ackermann & Co., à Londres. Ces volumes comportaient des illustrations de R.R. McIan, des textes de James Logan et des lithographies de L. Dickinson.
Cette lithographie saisissante immortalise le riche héritage et le faste du clan MacQuarrie, clan historique écossais. L'œuvre met en valeur des tartans détaillés, des costumes traditionnels et des éléments symboliques du clan, dans des couleurs riches et nuancées, rendues possibles par la technique d'impression lithographique artisanale.
