A fine antique engraving of King James I of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, after an original painting by Paulus van Somer at Hampton Court Palace.
Engraved by George Vertue, one of the most important English engravers of the 18th century, known for his meticulous reproductions of royal portraits.
This detailed print features King James I in elaborate Elizabethan attire, framed by an ornate cartouche and the royal coat of arms. The inscription reads:
“James I. King of Great Britain, France and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, &c.
From an Original Painting in the Palace of Hampton Court.
Paulus Vansomer p. — G. Vertue Sculp.”
