Meiji Early 20th Century Japanese Shokudai Bronze Candlesticks, a pair. Antique Metal Crane Bird & Tortoise with Lotus.

Antique Japanese bronze shokudai candle sticks for a Buddhist shrine) in the form of a crane standing on a turtle's back. The crane holds a lotus stem in its beak.  There are blossoms, buds and unfurling leaves. The different aspects of the lotus symbolises the stages of Buddha's life. The crane and turtle together symbolize longevity as well as the opposites of Heaven and Earth. This shokudai has especially intricate details.
