SOLD - Anatomy Plate 34 by Quain – Antique Medical Illustration, 1844
This original 19th-century anatomical plate illustrates the vascular anatomy of the spinal cord, detailing the anterior and posterior spinal arteries alongside the spinal nerve roots with remarkable clarity. Produced in 1844 as part of Jones Quain’s renowned anatomical works, it was originally intended as a teaching aid for medical students—making it equally compelling today for physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, medical educators, and collectors of medical history and art.
Jones Quain was a distinguished Irish anatomist whose publications shaped medical education throughout the 19th century. Printed in London by Taylor & Walton, official publishers to the University of London, this finely detailed colour lithograph captures the human spine with both scientific precision and aesthetic appeal.
Now approaching 200 years in age, the print may display light, age-appropriate signs such as gentle toning, foxing, or minor edge wear—characteristics that enhance its authenticity and historical value.
Approximate dimensions: 49 cm × 31 cm
