An Outstanding Edwardian Document Box

William Campbell Adamson was born in 1887 and was the only son of Mr and Mrs Shaw Adamson, of Careston Castle, Forfarshire. He was presented with this document box made by Asprey of London as a gift on his 20th birthday. William rose to the rank of Captain in the Royal Flying Corps during WW1 and was tragically killed in action against German aircraft on 5 September, 1915 aged 28 years old. The treasured gift remained locked away at the castle for over 100 years in its original leather travel protector explaining the exceptionally good and original condition. One of the nicest on the market.

Description:                                                                                                                         Fine Black Morocco Leather Document Box with gilded brass fittings, inscribed to the handle plate. Asprey Patent sliding lock front (no key present). 

The Edward's Patent hinge allows the lid to remain open at any position.
The interior is stamped ASPREY, 166 BOND STREET , LONDON in gold letters and has a removable tray covered with matching black Morocco leather and accessories to match.
The accessories comprise:
A spring opening ink well* and a matching 'Light' box.
Removable pen tray and a small pair of small scissors. 
A deep compartment below the tray offers plenty of storage space.
Behind the panel there is a matching leather folder containing original blotting pages and a trellis of leather straps forming six squares.
Original tan leather travel protector.
