A superb quality document box / desk organiser by J W Allen , 37 Strand London finished in black Morocco leather with gilt highlighting circa 1900.
The inside lid is divided into compartmentalised sections: Bills Paid & Unpaid, Letters: Answered & Unanswered above lift out pen tray, light, inkwell and stamp sections. Two further paper / document compartments (one with leather lattice work) are built into the fold our slope section. The original Bramah lock comes with a key and is fully functional. A highly decorative yet functional antique.
