An original 1844 colour lithograph presenting a detailed anatomical study of the human stomach and its vascular system, engraved for medical teaching in mid‑19th‑century London.
The plate is divided into two labelled figures: Fig. 1 shows the stomach in situ with surrounding organs and the full arterial and venous network rendered in vivid red; Fig. 2 offers a closer examination of the stomach’s internal vascular connections.
Produced for Taylor & Walton, publishers to the University of London, this plate formed part of a professional teaching series used by medical students and early practitioners.
Now approaching two centuries old, it retains the clarity and precision characteristic of Victorian anatomical illustration, with expected signs of age consistent with its working life.
A strong example of early Victorian medical illustration, valued for its clarity, colour retention, and direct connection to 19th‑century anatomical education. Suitable for framing, study collections, or as part of a curated medical or scientific display.
