This original 19th‑century anatomical plate, printed in London for Taylor & Walton—official booksellers and publishers to the University of London—represents a refined example of early Victorian medical illustration. Produced circa 1844, the colour lithograph was created as a teaching aid for medical students, combining scientific accuracy with the elegant visual clarity characteristic of Quain’s anatomical series.

Plate 14 presents a detailed study of the abdominal aorta, renal arteries, and associated vascular structures, rendered with the precision and tonal depth typical of mid‑century anatomical printing.

Now approaching two centuries in age, the sheet may show light, age‑appropriate characteristics such as gentle toning, scattered foxing, or minor edge wear. These features are consistent with authentic antique plates and contribute to its historical presence and appeal. The printed image remains clear, bright, and finely detailed.
